SCIENCE BOWL

Science Bowl is a buzzer competition covering six disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space, math, and energy.

About The Competition

Science Bowl is a Jeopardy style buzzer competition. Two teams of 5 (4 Players and 1 Alternate) compete against each other in various scientific disciplines, discussed above. Each round has around 25 sets of questions, 1 individually answered toss-up followed by a respective bonus that is discussed within a team. Each toss-up is worth 4 points and each bonus is 10.

There is one regional tournament for Science Bowl that is generally held in early March. The team that places first will go to the National competition in April, held in Washington DC. There are also various invitationals that may be attended both online and in person.

Practice/Tryouts

Practice times are subject to change after tryouts. Practices usually involve using prewritten questions from each team member as practice, then splitting into teams and using competition sets.

This year's tryouts will take place on 09/06 in Dr. Sawicka's room (C13) at MSJ, and involve one hour buzzer question tryouts for each subject, with each person being able to tryout for two sections and optionally math. Tryouts are only one factor that goes into team selection; scores, team synergy, and behavior will all be noted during practices and will go into the final decision.
